TEN POUND POM

Mark this post as unread.  When you have half an hour in which you would like to relax, unwind; grab a cuppa and a biscuit and stroll down the passages of time.

I stumbled across these little gems (on You Tube, naturally) and the clothes, cars and history of them, coupled with areas I grew up in really struck a chord.  Even if you didn't grow up in any of the cities featured, if you truly are a vintage lover, you will appreciate this capsule of time.
Being far sighted Aussies we are the government from around 1945-1972 sponsored a 'populate or perish' scheme, which basically allowed the Brits to migrate to Australia for only a 10 pound boat ride.  This then became known as the "Ten Pound Pom" scheme.  These videos are 'promotional' videos issued by the Immigration Department of each capital city in Australia, as well as some other more remote areas.  Of course my home town of Cairns had a special mention, and this is the feature of today's post.  Below are links to other capitals and cities so choose the one you would most like to see!

These are all around 20 minutes in length - but well worth the time to look at, so make sure you are comfy!

Here's the links to Brisbane, Sydney,  MelbourneAdelaide (There are many more, just search You Tube for 'Life in Australia'.
