{ B R I T I S H A I R W A Y S }

I always wanted to be an air hostess growing up.  Travel has always been in my bones.  My Dad was an 'original' backpacker in the early 60's.  Man,  some of stories!  Maybe another time I can tell some of them... but back to the airways.  My Dad discouraged the idea - saying it's just a glorified waitress at 35,000 feet.  I agree.  I'd much rather be waited on in a pressurized tin can than wait on other people.

Having said that, the allure and charm, and sheer class that airline hostesses have are unrivaled.  And air travel these days is all about comfort, avoiding  DVT, keeping hydrated, and not drinking too much at altitude (been there done that)  But I think it is sad.

Back in the day air travel was something of an affair - it wasn't just about the destination but the journey.  British Airways have launched a campaign about their 90 years in the sky, how their uniforms have been an important part of their branding.  They have been carefully crafted by some amazing and celebrated designers; but personally I love the styles of the guests travelling in these videos!  It reminds me of an old photograph of my Grandmother getting ready to board a plane back to England in the early 70's.  She looked classy she did!   Enjoy!

  1. I so agree with you on the hats! Reminds me of my grandmother and her stack of hat boxes, to which goes well with your post as my mother and her would travel to Europe hat boxes and all dressed formally..
    Loved the video..

  12. LOVE this SOOOOO much!! Thanks for sharing the vid. Just gorgeous. I was taught by my grandmother to ALWAYS "dress" for travel. She was appalled by the trend toward sweats and stretchy clothes on airplanes. This reminds me of her and what she taught me. Thank you. Just lovely.
